Get to know Luke...
Luke Stevenson is a musician, composer and music educator from Melbourne, Australia. His has won multiple national awards, toured internationally with his ensembles, and conducted his own commissioned works for a number of ensembles, choirs and orchestras around Australia.
Luke is a flexible performer and composer, having garnered experience in a wide range of styles including classical, jazz, pop, rock and funk. He is widely sought as an arranger, composer, performer, and educator, where he has been successful in implementing singing and arranging programs in schools around Australia and overseas.
Luke began his formal musical education in violin at age 3. He was also instructed in piano and voice, including time spent performing with the National Boys Choir, Little Yarra Ensemble (World Music Ensemble), and Voxsynergy Choir. This time included tours throughout Australia and New Zealand, where Luke was a regular soloist and eventually a conductor, as well as arranging music for those ensembles. Highlights during these periods include performing at the Australia Centenary of Federation concerts in 2001, composition commissions for an orchestral music camp, scores for film and theatre, the completion of his AmusA in violin, and the release of his first CD.
Luke’s musical instruction continued at Melbourne University where he studied classical voice and composition, followed by training in jazz voice at Monash University. During this time Luke continued performing and writing, taking up the direction of youth choir Bacchanae.
Luke has established himself as a leading performer in the Australian a cappella community, touring nationally and internationally, to Korea, China and Singapore. Luke’s work with vocal groups Voxsynergy, Blue Notion, Switch and Suade has produced three CDs, a live DVD, and numerous workshops with schools, both locally and overseas. Luke also regularly performs alongside industry stalwarts such as The Idea of North, The Exchange, Micapella, The Magnets, The Plumbers of Rome, Coco’s Lunch, and Paul Pheonix (The Kings Singers).
Recently Luke has also been focused on developing a catalogue of new arrangements, producing scores and learning tracks for choirs and ensembles around Australia. His work on “As Long As You Love Me” with his band Switch garnered him multiple awards from Aus Aca PLAY and CASA, and the track was selected for the Voices Only compilation CD in 2014. His barbershop quartet The Mellow Diners placed 4th at the Harmony Goldrush national barbershop competition in late 2015, and will represent the country at the 2016 International Barbershop Competition in Nashville.
In 2016 Luke will be relocating to London to pursue further opportunities and continue to perform and engage as part of the international music community.
